What is fezolinetant (Veozah)?

Last reviewed July 4, 2026 by Dr. Sapna Jadhav, General Physician. Sources from ACOG, NHS, Mayo Clinic, CDC, NICE, NIH, Cochrane, and peer-reviewed journals.

Bottom lineFezolinetant (Veozah) is a non-hormonal prescription pill for menopausal hot flashes that blocks the NK3 receptor to calm the brain's temperature center; approved by the FDA in 2023, it is taken once daily but carries a boxed warning for rare liver injury, so it requires liver monitoring and clinician oversight.

Fezolinetant, sold under the brand name Veozah, is a non-hormonal prescription medication for moderate to severe hot flashes and night sweats caused by menopause.

How it works

Fezolinetant is a neurokinin-3 (NK3) receptor antagonist. It targets the actual brain mechanism behind hot flashes: as estrogen falls during menopause, certain neurons in the hypothalamus over-release a signal called neurokinin B, which over-stimulates the brain's temperature center. Fezolinetant blocks that signal, helping restore normal temperature regulation - without using hormones.

Key facts

Important safety note

In December 2024, the FDA added a boxed warning - its most prominent safety warning - about a rare but serious risk of liver injury. Liver blood tests are recommended before starting and on a schedule during treatment, including monthly for the first two months. Stop the medication and contact your clinician right away if you notice fatigue, nausea, itching, yellowing of the eyes or skin, pale stools, or dark urine.

Fezolinetant is a prescription medication and is not right for everyone. Your clinician will review your medical history and liver health first.
