The 30-second version

  • Clue Plus is $9.99/mo. Femora is $2.99/mo. Same 7-day free trial.
  • Clue's design is clean - Femora's is too, and adds a real certified health expert you can text in-app.
  • Clue is mostly cycle tracking. Femora covers period, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, fertility, and medication reminders.
  • Both are privacy-conscious. Femora ships AES-256-GCM at-rest encryption and zero third-party ad SDKs.
  • Clue is mature and German-built with 10+ years of refinement. Femora is brand new (May 2026), indie-built, and smaller.

About Clue: Clue was founded by Ida Tin in Berlin in 2012. It coined the term 'femtech' and pioneered the clean, science-first, no-pink aesthetic in cycle tracking.

Six reasons people switch

Real reasons, not marketing fluff.

1. Real human experts, not just an app

Clue gives you tracking. Femora adds a certified health expert you can text in-app - async or real-time. When something feels off and you're not sure whether to call your OB-GYN, a real human can help you decide in minutes.

2. 70% cheaper than Clue Plus

Clue Plus is $9.99/mo or $39.99/yr. Femora is $2.99/mo or $29.99/yr. You get more features, plus expert chat, for less than a third of the price.

3. All life stages, one app

Clue handles cycles well but pregnancy is a separate companion app, and postpartum/menopause are thin. Femora covers period → pregnancy → postpartum → menopause in one app with one subscription, so you never lose your history.

4. Medication reminders built in

Clue has no medication reminder. Femora ships birth control pill-pack tracking, fertility med schedules, vitamins, and refill alerts that survive timezone changes.

5. A cycle ring you'll actually want to open

Clue's UI is clean and minimal. Femora's animated 4-phase cycle ring shows you exactly where you are at a glance - same minimalist sensibility, more visual.

6. Privacy you can verify

Clue is a GDPR-native company with a solid privacy reputation. Femora goes further with AES-256-GCM encryption at rest, zero third-party ad SDKs in the app, and a one-tap full account deletion.

When you should stick with Clue

We'd rather you stay with Clue than churn from Femora a month in. Stick with Clue if:

  • You've used Clue for years and the data history is your single source of truth
  • You're a research participant in one of Clue's academic studies
  • You strictly prefer a German-based GDPR-native company
  • You don't need pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, or medication features - just clean period tracking

Founder

Built by Dr. Sapna Jadhav, women's health physician

Femora was founded by Dr. Sapna Jadhav - a practicing women's health physician based in Dubai - and a small engineering team. The "real expert chat" isn't marketing copy; it's the foundation of the product. Every clinical guideline, phase tip, and symptom response is shaped by an actual doctor who's spent her career in women's reproductive health.

Frequently asked

Is Femora better than Clue?

Femora is cheaper ($2.99 vs $9.99/mo), broader (covers pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, medication in one app), and adds real human expert chat. Clue has 10+ years of refinement, a research reputation, and a beautifully spare UI. If you've outgrown 'just cycle tracking' and want a single app that covers more life stages, Femora is built for that. If you love Clue's minimalism and just want the best period tracker, Clue is still excellent.

Can I import my Clue data?

Clue allows CSV export from Settings. Re-entering past period start dates in Femora's onboarding takes about 5 minutes. We're working on a direct Clue CSV import for a future release.

Is Clue selling my data?

Clue has a strong privacy reputation - they're a Berlin-based GDPR-native company and have publicly committed to not selling user data. The bigger issue with most period apps is ad SDKs that leak data; Femora doesn't ship any in the app.

Does Femora have research-backed predictions like Clue?

Femora's cycle prediction algorithm uses a weighted average of your last 6 cycles with standard-deviation-based confidence scoring - a standard approach in the literature. Clue has published more peer-reviewed work because they're older. Both are mathematically sound.

Is Femora FDA-approved for contraception?

No. Neither is Clue. If you want FDA-cleared birth control via cycle tracking, use Natural Cycles.

Can I use Femora on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Native iOS and Android apps. One subscription covers both.
