Just for fun - not scientifically accurate

The chart predicts

A girl 👧

Chart age 31 · conception month 6 · conceived around Mon, Jun 29, 2026

This is folklore with no medical basis - the only reliable ways to learn your baby's sex are an ultrasound (often around 18-20 weeks) or genetic testing such as NIPT.

Just for fun. The Chinese gender chart is folklore with no scientific basis. It is right about half the time - the same odds as guessing. For a real answer, ask about NIPT (from around 10 weeks) or your anatomy ultrasound (around 18-20 weeks).

How the chart works

The traditional chart matches the mother's age at conception (counted the Chinese way, which is usually about one year more than your standard age) against the lunar month of conception, then reads off a boy or a girl. Our version approximates lunar age as your usual age plus one and uses the calendar conception month, so treat it as a quick approximation rather than a precise lunar-calendar conversion.

What actually determines a baby's sex

A baby's sex is set at conception by whether the sperm carries an X or Y chromosome. No chart, food, symptom, or timing trick changes or reliably predicts it. If you want to know for real, ask your provider about non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) or wait for the mid-pregnancy ultrasound.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Chinese gender predictor accurate?

No. It is folklore with no scientific basis - on average it is right about half the time, the same as a coin flip. The only reliable ways to learn your baby's sex are an ultrasound (often around 18-20 weeks) or genetic testing such as NIPT.

How does the Chinese gender chart work?

The traditional chart cross-references the mother's age at conception (in the Chinese way of counting age) with the lunar month she conceived, and reads off a boy or girl. Our version approximates Chinese age as your usual age plus one and uses the calendar conception month, so it is a quick approximation rather than a true lunar-calendar calculation.

What is the mother's lunar age?

In the Chinese system you are considered one year old at birth, so lunar age is usually about one year more than your standard age. The chart covers chart ages 18 to 45.

I don't know my conception date - can I still use it?

Yes. Switch to 'By due date' and the tool estimates conception as about 266 days before your due date. You can also use our conception date calculator for a closer estimate.

Can anything actually predict my baby's sex before an ultrasound?

Sex is determined at conception by the sperm, and no folklore method, food, or symptom can predict or change it. Blood-based NIPT can indicate sex from around 10 weeks, and the anatomy ultrasound usually shows it around 18-20 weeks.
