Postpartum rage is intense, sudden anger or irritability after birth that can feel out of proportion and hard to control. It's a less talked-about symptom that can be part of postpartum depression or anxiety.
What it can look like
- Snapping or shouting over small things
- Sudden waves of anger that feel overwhelming
- Irritability that's hard to switch off
- Feeling out of control, then guilty or ashamed afterwards
- Physical tension, a racing heart, or clenched jaw
Why it happens
Big hormonal shifts, severe sleep deprivation, feeling unsupported, and the relentless demands of newborn care can combine to lower your tolerance and trigger anger. It often goes hand in hand with anxiety or depression.
It doesn't make you a bad parent
Feeling rage doesn't mean you're failing. It's a recognized symptom that responds to support, rest, and treatment of any underlying depression or anxiety.
